Figure Drawing Reflection 2024

Posted above are four of my favorite drawings from these past two weeks, which my art class has spent studying the human figure and figure drawing. I always love starting the school year off with figure drawing. This year, I spent the first week trying too hard to recreate the style and finesse I had with figures last year. The second week, however, I stopped trying too hard and let myself get really absorbed into the figure drawing process, and I made better artwork as a result.

Instead of focusing on perfection, I should've been enjoying the artistic process. I tend to focus on the most dynamic parts of the model's poses, and I try to emphasize and exaggerate them when I translate the pose to paper. Once I was able to recognize and embrace this "quirk", I was able to improve my skills drastically, and I'm really happy with that!
